Correct way to brush fur

How To Brush A Dogs Fur

Brushing is a necessary part of any dog grooming routine. Not only can it help keep your dog’s coat shiny and healthy, but improve their mental state as well. It’s easy to do it yourself, and we have a few tips and tricks on how to brush a dogs fur to ensure you do the right job:

Brush down and out

It’s essential to brush away from the pooch’s skin, in the direction that the fur grows. Otherwise, it might hurt, and dogs tend to remember these negative experiences. Additionally, if you’re not gentle enough, you might stretch the hairs or pull them out unintentionally. When a tangle appears, take your time combing through it –like with a child’s hair.

For tough mats, apply a conditioner and leave it in for a couple of minutes. Afterwards, use a wide-toothed comb to go through the tangle, stopping at any sign of distress. You might even choose to cut the mats with a pair of scissors, but just be confident that your pup won’t move. Unfortunately, it does happen more often than we’d like!

If you’ve tried all of these tricks, but you can’t seem to succeed, call a professional. Although they will probably just shave off the area, you’ve done all a responsible owner could do. After all, the dog grooming industry is there for a reason.

When To Call For Help

Ever left the salon thinking that you could never have your hair look as good as a professional does? Well, the same applies to dogs. Although brushing isn’t a sophisticated task, some level of skill might be needed depending on the breed. If your dog’s hair quickly gets matted, it’s better to take him somewhere where his anxiety will be minimal.

Whether you do it or at a salon, don’t forget the treats and cuddles!
